A Lucky Child: Graduate Recital at Bard College
“Think of me” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera
Meg Jones is a soprano who has been noted to have “exceeded on stage” (Millbrook Independent) and takes great pride in filling the space with her vivacious voice and dynamic storytelling. She was the 2018 concerto competition winner at Ithaca College, as well as the role of Laetita in Gian Carlo Menotti's opera, The Old Maid and the Thief. Meg is a recent graduate from the Graduate Vocal Arts Program at Bard College-Conservatory from the studio of Edith Bers. At Bard, she had the honor of performing the role of Laurie in the VAP’s very own pastiche, Rest in Pieces, a member of the family in Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins, and the voice of Monica’s ghost from Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium, all directed by Stephanie Blythe. She worked with several singers and organizations on a project called “Home Music Series.” Each of five musical episodes explored many aspects of what home can mean to each individual person and provide information on composers, poetry, and non-profit organizations supporting homeless people in New York. Megan recorded and released the world premiere of Derek David’s newest Yiddish song cycle which was commissioned by YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, and has also appeared as the soprano soloist for Bach’s Trauerode Cantata BWV 198 with the Bard Baroque Ensemble. Oratorio and sacred music are a large part of her life and she feels grateful to be a repeating soloist at several churches in Pennsylvania. Meg participated in back-to-back summers as a young artist in Pittsburgh Festival Opera. During the summer of 2020, she did a role study of Susanna from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and learned a great deal about self-directing and self-editing for recordings. She participated in the filming of Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata at PFO the following summer, and enjoyed performing in several concerts throughout the program. After moving to New York, Meg began exploring her passion for performing in nursing homes, hospice houses, and rehabilitation centers. It brings her great joy to share the beauty of music with people who do not have access to live performances. Meg currently resides in Ronkonkoma, NY and hopes to continue singing in concerts, weddings, funerals, nursing homes, and events.
